Summer Pack Trips

Experience all the Colorado backcountry has to offer on a one, two or three day overnight photography pack trip.  The horse or mule ride into base camp takes about three hours.  Base camp is nestled at the edge of an alpine meadow and small lake full of trout.    Spend the following days riding and exploring the Flattop Mountains.  With the largest elk herd in the country don't be surprised if you see 50 to 100 Elk a day.

Our summer pack trips take place in the vast unspoiled area of the Flat top Wilderness along the Dunckly Pass Scenic by-Way.

This is a very rare opportunity to experience this Wilderness on the back of one of our very reliable horses and mules.  We recommend a one or two night's all inclusive pack trip to truly appreciate this experience, however we do offer day rides into this area for an unforgettable breathtaking scenery and wild life in their natural state.

The fishing is among the best for these high mountain lakes, with mostly brookies, however Colorado class A Cutthroats are making a big come back in this wilderness Area, we encourage catch and release with barb less hooks to ensure future generations a quality fishery.

Bookings for this are by reservation only and must be made in advance.  Let us help you plan a trip that you will be talking about for years to come, and you will be back!

Base camp provides you comfortable accommodations  with three roomy wall tents for sleeping with 4"pads and a large cook tent equipped with all utensils needed for food preparation.  All meals are provided. A fire pit will be available, but use of it will depend on the fire danger and the rules set forth by the U.S. Forest Service.  We will strictly enforce these rules.

Surrounding our base camp is a network of trails that will access many different areas for your wildlife viewing and photographic enjoyment.

Below is a list of options for this camp.

  1. Guided two, three, or five-day pack trip.  You will stay at base camp:  we will provide livestock and western style meals (beef, chicken, pasta, potatoes, veggies, fruit, eggs, bread etc..).  Our guides are experienced and can be a great asset to this adventure.  Your days will consist of horseback riding and hiking to favorite areas around the Pagoda area.

  2. Drop camp.  We will pack you and your gear into our base camp, get you settled, and let you enjoy your camping your way.  We will come back at a designated day and time to pack you out.  This is a great opportunity to camp on your own without the hassles of setting up camp.  This is suggested for experienced campers only.

  3. Simple.  If you are experienced in camping the backcountry, have your own livestock, or enjoy backpacking, rent our base camp.  You do everything you always do when you go camping, except camp will be set up for you when you arrive & you won't have to tear it down when you leave, leaving you more time to enjoy the scenery.

  4. Fall guided horseback trips.  You will experience Colorado's beautiful fall colors and sounds of elk bugling at its finest, trips take place between hunting seasons, late September and early October, day and overnight trips are available with spacious wall tent accommodations and wonderfully prepared meals, contact us and book early space is limited for this truly one of a kind experience.
